Mystique is a member of a subspecies of humanity known as mutants, who are born with superhuman abilities. Mystique is a shapeshifter who can mimic the appearance and voice of any person with exquisite precision, and her natural appearance includes blue skin and yellow eyes.

Mystique appears in six of the X-Men films: she was portrayed by actress Rebecca Romijn in the first three installments, while Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence portrayed a younger version of the character in X-Men: First Class X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse.
