Halle Berry first came into the spotlight at seventeen years when she won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant, representing the state of Ohio in 1985 and, a year later in 1986, when she was the first runner-up in the Miss U.S.A. Pageant.

Is the first African-American actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in Monster's Ball, becoming the first and, as of 2014, the only woman of African-American descent to win an Oscar for a leading role.

Berry portrayed the mutant superhero Storm in the film adaptation of the comic book series X-Men (2000) and its sequels, X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).

In 2001, Berry appeared in the film Swordfish, which featured her first topless scene. As Bond girl Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson in the 2002 blockbuster Die Another Day, Berry recreated a scene from Dr. No, emerging from the surf to be greeted by James Bond as Ursula Andress had 40 years earlier.

What is my real purpose here? I've looked at what I do. I make believe and make movies. I entertain people and get paid for it. Sometimes it seems like such a shallow existence. How insignificant in the scheme of life.

On choosing both serious and popcorn-movie roles: There's art and there's commerce. You have to find a way to mesh the two. It's important to do the little movies just for the love of the art. But it's those big movies that take you around the world and make you globally famous.

Why Do Fools Fall in Love

True story of 1950s doo-wop singer Frankie Lymon. In 1956, Frankie scores a huge hit with title song, only to fall rapidly into obscurity, drug addiction and death of an overdose at age 25. After his death three women come forward to claim his estate royalties. They tell their stories in court. The first, Zola, is the singer of the Platters, whom he dated for a while. Next, Elizabeth, who is a shoplifter, testifies to having met and married Frankie. Then Zola returns to the scene and he marries her too. Frankie is drafted into the army, absconds, and marries schoolteacher Emira in Georgia before being discovered by MPs. Eventually, back in the present, the warring widows come together and bond over their shared situation.

Nisi (Halle Berry) and Mickey (Natalie Desselle-Reid) are waitresses in a soul food diner in Decatur, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta). Their dream is to open the world's first combination hair salon and soul food restaurant.
To accumulate start-up money, they audition for a music video in Los Angeles. Through an unusual turn of events, they end up assisting a Beverly Hills butler and caring for an aging millionaire who welcomes them into his mansion. They become Black American Princesses (BAPs) "livin' large and takin' charge!" amongst the rich and famous.
They soon find themselves in the middle of a plot to milk the millionaire of his fortune.

John Turturro is featured in a subplot as an Italian American who grows attracted to a black woman and takes heat from his numbskull buddies.
